500th Hybrid Delivered
LA CROSSE, WI - Joe Crocker took possession Wednesday, August 17, of the 500th hybrid delivered by Honda Motorwerks in La Crosse. Honda Motorwerks has helped drivers invest in more pre-owned hybrids than another dealership in the world.
Crocker, of Cambridge MN, said his motivation was learning from Hybrid Guru Chris Schneider at the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) Fair in June that new Honda Insights would no longer be available for sale. Crocker´s new Insight is the last 2006 5-speed Insight that Motorwerks will get. Crocker also owns a 2002 Insight that routinely gets 60-70 miles per gallon.
"This is quite a milestone. I´m especially glad the 500th turned out to be an Insight because it was the vehicle that started the hybrid revolution," said Schneider, who is also the President of Honda Motorwerks.
Joining Crocker and Schneider was George Hagen of Decorah, Iowa, who purchased the first Insight from Schneider and Motorwerks. Hagen took delivery on Valetine?s Day of 2000. Hagen, who currently drives a 2001 Insight, said he recorded 88.1 miles per gallon on his trip from Decorah to La Crosse.
"It´s gratifying to see that more and more people are realizing the importance of driving hybrids for their impact economically and on the environment," Schneider said. "More and more people are selling hybrids now, but it?s nice to say we were the first and the first to 500."
All told Motorwerks has delivered nearly 170 new and pre-owned Insights. Motorwerks will continue to have pre-owned Insights available.
